How To Give Your Bedroom That Boutique Hotel Look

How To Give Your Bedroom That Boutique Hotel Look

There is something undeniably special when you step into a beautiful boutique hotel bedroom.

The sheets are freshly pressed, the lighting feels soft and comforting, and each piece of furniture seems to have been chosen with care.

The space feels calm, and indulgent as if it was designed just for you.

But, what if you want to create this look in your own home, and experience it every day?

Well, the good news is that you don't need to have a designer budget to recreate a five‑star hotel experience.

With a few thoughtful choices, and the right furniture, you easily can transform an ordinary bedroom into a boutique retreat that'll make your friends and family exhale the second they walk through the door.

Using the main image of this blog post as a reference, let's look at how you can transform your bedroom and give it that "boutique hotel look".

1. Let's start with the colours

The typical boutique hotel bedroom rarely uses loud colours or busy patterns to make a positive impact.

Instead, a combined palette of carefully chosen colours are used to create a relaxed and comforting backdrop.

In the image above, the bedroom is built around warm browns, soft creams and sharp black accents, which gives it a luxurious look.

When planning to give your bedroom that boutique hotel look, start by choosing two main colours as your base and one accent colour to give it that pop:

  • A light neutral colour for the walls and for your furniture pieces. Think soft white, or a warm pastel colour.

  • Use a richer tone for textiles like your bedding, cushions and bed throws. Colours like chocolate, caramel, forest green or ink blue will work beautifully.

  • For items such as lamp bases and picture frames, go for darker shades such as black or a deep charcoal.

By using this foundation as your palette, you'll give your bedroom a "curated" feel rather than something that looks like it's just been thrown together.

Use it as your rule-of-thumb when you go shopping.

If you see something that doesn't sit comfortably within your colour palette, it probably doesn't belong within your new bedroom.

2. Next: Choose the right furniture

Do you notice how the furniture in the image above is simple, and has clean lines?

The white bed-frame, the matching bedside tables, the generously-sized wardrobe and the complimenting chest of drawers.

All of them combine to create a calm visual base that gives the textiles, and the accessories, the platform they deserve.

To create your boutique hotel look:

  • The bed: Start with a bed-frame with a headboard that is low or medium in height, and rectangular in shape with very minimal details.

  • Your bedside tables: They don't always need to match your bed. but they should share a similar colour or style.

  • Storage: Storage solutions that compliment such as wardrobes, chest of drawers and ottomans that are minimalist in appearance so your eyes aren't distracted by visual clutter.

If you're shopping online for furniture, look for collections that offer a variety of pieces from the same range.

It's one of the quickest and easiest ways to achieve your boutique hotel look.

3. Your bed: The star of the show

In any boutique hotel bedroom, the bed is the star attraction.

To recreate this look in your bedroom, start by thinking in layers:

  1. Star with the basics: Invest in a supportive mattress, and good quality bedding in a neutral tone.

White or cream will give it that "hotel fresh" feel. Crisp bedding instantly suggests luxury.

  2. Add plush pillows and cushions: Aim for two regular-sized pillows per person. two larger pillows or square cushions to place at the back for height, and two or three decorative cushions or one long cushion to go at the front.

Arrange them starting from the tallest pillows at the back to the smallest at the front. It'll make you bed look as it was styled professionally.

  3. Introduce a throw:  In the image, the knitted throw draped across the end of the bed pulls everything together.

Choose a throw with an interesting or unique pattern and lay it neatly across the bottom third of your bed.

  4.  Consider a seating bench or an ottoman: A bench or an ottoman at the foot of the bed is a classic boutique detail.

It's a practical perch for when getting dressed, and for storing your bed linen.  It adds an extra layer of sophistication.

Choose one in a material that complements your bedding.

4. Use symmetry, the secret design trick

Using symmetry is one of most effective design tricks that boutique hotels use to make their rooms feel high-end and orderly.

The image above demonstrates this perfectly: two matching bedside tables with two identical bedside lamps on both sides of the bed.

This sense of symmetry creates a sense of calm and balance, making the room feel orderly.

5. Layer your lighting for a soft, comforting glow

Your lighting can make or break the boutique feel.

In the image above, the combination of the bedside lamps and the ceiling spotlights give the room a warm, comforting glow without any harsh glare.

To achieve this in your home, aim for three layers of light:

  • Ambient lighting - spotlights in the ceiling softly illuminate the whole room.

  • Accent lighting - You can place a lamp on the chest of drawers or a strip of LED lighting inside your wardrobe to highlight your clothes.
  • Task lighting - bedside lamps for reading, or just for winding down. Ideally, with fabric shades that diffuse the light.

Use warm-white bulbs rather than the cool daylight bulbs. They'll create a more comforting atmosphere.

Dimmer switches are also worth considering. They allow you to alternate between bright practical light to a romantic hotel glow.

6. Add some texture to your floor

Boutique hotel rooms feel luxurious not because they're filled with expensive items, but because they're layered in textures in thoughtful ways.

In the above image, the deep-pile white rug softens the dark wooden floor and makes the bedroom feel more indulgent,

By placing a large rug under your bed that extends on both sides you can extend that feeling of textured richness.

Experience it every morning when you get out of your bed as your feet touches the rug.

7. Include a full-length mirror

A full-length mirror is a boutique hotel room must-have.

Consider placing a mirror opposite a window or just bedside your wardrobe to amplify  the natural light and give your room the illusion of being spacious.

Also, choose a frame colour that ties into your main accent colour, e.g. black for a monochrome colour scheme, brass for a more warmer palette or wood in a bedroom that's more organic.
